ABOUT LITTLE MOTHER

Feisty, smart and savvy, Little Mother had fiery red hair and outlived 3 husbands.  Born in the late 1800’s, she was a part of the “Gilded Age”. A southern charmer, Ruth aka Little Mother, was never wanting for suitors but, despite her popularity and the time, her main ambition was to graduate from college.  She proudly attended Agnes Scott College and the University of Georgia, graduating with her master’s in education at the same time her daughter, Kakee, received her undergraduate degree in 1926.

Little Mother went on to teach for decades, was thrice married and loved a good party.  Fashion was important to her.  She cherished her diamonds, furs and party dresses and, until the day she died, had her hair cut, styled and colored every other week.

A good southerner, she had a bourbon and soda daily, while wearing her costume of choice.
